Contemporary Romance Stories For Every Reader

Looking for great contemporary romance reads for November? Describe your book in ‘Tweet’ form (i.e. 140 characters).

Raine Miller - Boston Billionaire bowled over by British Beauty. He’s Caleb Blackstone and he’s #FilthyRich #BlackstoneDynasty #Montlake

Barbara Longley - Skilled in more ways than one, can this blue-collar playboy give her his heart? If he does, can she get past his past and give him a future?

Jamie Beck - Jackson St. James replaces one craving with another when he falls for spunky single mom, Gabby, until a custody battle threatens their love.

Describe your setting. Why did you set your story here?

Jamie Beck - The story takes place in Winhall, Vermont, which is in the Green Mountains (near Stratton ski resort). It’s a small town (about 800 permanent residents) located roughly seven miles from Manchester Center (population around 4,000). I spend a lot of time in this area, which I find to be both beautiful and restoratively peaceful, so it seemed an ideal place for Jackson to recover. Autumn is particularly beautiful—when nature reminds us that we can shed everything and start over (which should give Jackson hope). It also worked out well because, being only a three-hour drive from his hometown in Connecticut, Jackson could get home quickly if an emergency arose.

Raine Miller - Boston, Mass. I love the city for its history and fabulous architecture. When I was visiting Boston for a book signing event in March 2013 I stumbled across an interesting statue in Boston Common. It was dedicated to a man named: William Blackstone. He had the distinction of being the first European settler in the area. Wheels started immediately turning in my head that these Boston Blackstones could be the American relatives of my London Blackstones from my Blackstone Affair series.

Barbara Longley - The story takes place in St. Paul, Minnesota over the frigid winter months, because it’s where I live and what I know. Plus, the inspiration for both characters also live in Minnesota.

What was the most difficult scene to write?

Barbara Longley - Love scenes are difficult for me to write—always, and in every book.

Raine Miller - When Brooke tells Caleb the heartbreaking story of her past. I can’t say more in this interview but I cried buckets while writing and that’s an important ‘tell’ for me. If the words can make me emote, then hopefully it will be the same for my readers.

Jamie Beck - I think the group therapy session was the toughest to write because I knew series’ readers would need some closure when it came to David’s secret and Mr. St. James. The focus had to be on Jackson’s response to everything, but I also needed to highlight the siblings’ relationships with each other, and with their father. I hope I’ve stayed true to the series themes (forgiveness and redemption) and to the characters’ traits while still delivering a believable and cathartic resolution that readers enjoy.

What is your favorite scene in the book?

Jamie Beck - In most of my books, I could answer this question easily, but with WORTH THE RISK, I can’t. Honestly, this is my favorite of all of my books. There are so many poignant moments sprinkled throughout each scene, and I equally adore the hero and heroine, so choosing a favorite is impossible. If pressed, I might choose the first time they have dinner together, or the fireside chat. Either of those quiet scenes really highlights their personalities, compatibility, compassion, and admiration for one and other. They also mark great internal tipping points for each character.

Barbara Longley - There are so many! I loved writing the scene where Sam and Haley both realize her meddling mother set Haley up for a flirtation with Sam, the most notorious hound-dog handyman in town. I also loved writing the scene where Sam realizes he’s in too deep, and he freaks out. There’s the scene where Sam puts his “grand gesture” into motion, trying to win back Haley’s trust . . . Oh, the first kiss was fun to write too.

Raine Miller - When Brooke takes him to Target and they shop for normal everyday items. Caleb has never been in a Target before. lol
