Decorating – Whether we’re putting up the tree, setting up the winter village or stringing lights outside, we always manage to have a good time. Every ornament has a story behind it and we begin to reminisce, it’s precious time.
Lord of the Rings marathon – Every year over the holiday break, Mini and I pile into the living room, light the fire and turn on the tree while we curl up with hot cocoa and popcorn to watch each of the Lord of the Rings movies, extended editions.
Gloomy days – We don’t get a lot of snow here, ice yes and rain more often in winter than not, but gray, dreary days during the holidays seem to make our decorations a little brighter and our lights a little prettier and the warmth inside a little cozier. Maybe it’s a cliché, but the darker days make us appreciate the sunnier ones. I particularly like this day on Winter Solstice and Yule, because I keep a fire lit all through the longest night of the year to remind me that the days will get warmer again.
Christmas Eve - We pile into the car, usually stop at Starbuck’s before they close, and it’s right after dark and we drive around to look at all the Christmas lights, we sing along with the Christmas music, we laugh and sometimes we argue, then we make up and laugh up some more. When we get home, we each get to open a present and we usually watch a movie before everyone crawls into bed to wait for Christmas morning.
Christmas Day – It’s very low key here, we open presents, eat breakfast and watch the Disney Parks parade on television—though last year it was more talking than actual parade which was annoying. We spread out through the house and come back together again, but it’s all about the time spent together.
We’re busy all the time it seems, but at the holidays, we remember what’s important. We remember to make time.

Cassius, Alpha of Sutter Butte, leads the most ruthless and dangerous pack in the United States. Misfits, castoffs, and forgotten wolves, they rose to create a pack more than a century ago in utter defiance of the order of the day. Seen as pitiless and cruel, Cassius wants more for his people than a yearly bloodbath as they fight for a better spot in the pecking order. To change his pack means to change himself, and he will find rebellion on all sides, not to mention from his own defiant heart.
Sovvan Stark, Omega of Delta Crescent, lives a cherished, beloved life in the center of her pack—a delicate and hard won balance. Though she is not the only Omega, she is the most experienced with the tremors of pack upset when power shifts from Alpha to Alpha. When her Alpha approaches her about Sutter Butte’s request, Sovvan considers the matter for several months. While she might hold within her the key to helping the Sutter Butte Alpha, the undertaking could very well kill her.
Accompanied by a single Hound, Sovvan begins a journey to help Cassius rebuild the foundation of his pack, but first she will have to transform him…
