#DecemberJoyathon2015: Anne Barton's Favorite Things

We're 5 days in and the Joyathon is chugging along. Thanks everyone! Today, awesome author Anne Barton is sharing some of her holiday favorites that include gift wrapping (hey, there's something zen about it and don't forget to grab some wine while you're at it!), hosting parties and holiday cheer. All this gives us warm fuzzies!

Anne Barton started swiping romances from her mom’s bookshelf as a teenager and decided historicals (with their balls, dukes, and gowns) were the best. So, when she had the chance to spend a semester in London she packed her bags—and promptly fell in love with the city, its history, and its pubs. She dreamed of writing romance, but somehow ended up a software analyst instead.

Fortunately, a few years and a few careers later, Anne found her way back to writing the stories she loves and won the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart® for Regency Historical Romance. She lives in Maryland with her husband and three children, who try valiantly not to roll their eyes whenever she quotes Jane Austen. Her weaknesses include reality TV, cute shoes, and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.

1. Wrapping presents. I’m not a fan of malls or shopping, but I LOVE to wrap. Especially if I can hide out in my room, turn on some Christmas music, and pour a glass of wine.

2. All the good smells. A fresh cut tree, gingerbread, hot chocolate, cookies baking in the oven—it’s like all the best Yankee Candle scents rolled into one.

3. Hosting parties. If it wasn’t for holiday get-togethers, I’d never clean my house or clear off the dining room table or pull out the good dishes. But a houseful of laughter and cheer is totally worth it.

4. The lazy week between Christmas and New Year’s. The crazy rush is over and everything slows to a civilized pace. It’s the perfect time to stay home, binge watch a new series, and attack my TBR pile.

5. Holiday cheer. I just love how the holidays bring people together. For example, you can ask a total stranger at the mall if she thinks your mom would like a certain sweater, and SHE WILL HELP YOU pick the right one. It’s a Christmas miracle.
