My hubby and I both come from divorced families, which before we were married meant holidays spent on the road, driving from one parent’s house to the next. I’m not a big turkey fan to begin with, but four different turkey dinners, four different present openings, and four hundred miles in a car in 48 hours did not scream warm family holiday. It didn’t feel like family at all. So the first year we were married he made a big deal of getting a huge tree early, having our families over for a decorating and celebration night, then when everyone left he handed me a small box. I asked if it was my early Christmas present and he said, “No, it’s your Christmas.” And be still my heart, because inside was a Christmas tree shaped ornament and a note: Our first Christmas and our first Christmas tradition. At the bottom of the note was a conformation for a Christmas dinner in the garden room at Buchard Garden’s in Victoria, British Columbia. His present to me was the perfect Christmas. No driving, no splitting time, no dividing up the season. It was just him and me, five days in a beautiful city, breakfasts in bed, and walking around the town holding hands and sharing secret looks. And best of all, Christmas morning I awoke to a miniature tree sitting on the table in our suite, the potted kind made out of rosemary (my favorite herb) and together we hung out first ornament. And for dinner—I ordered the salmon. No turkey for this girl. Just a romantics dinner with the love of my life and the man who had become my family. And every year we hang that ornament on out tree first—right at the top near the star.
So in celebration of the holidays, and the sweetest man I know, I am offering up a signed copy of my latest release, SUGAR’S TWICE AS SWEET, because forever is always sweeter in Sugar, Georgia. To enter all you have to do is tell us about your favorite ornament or holiday decoration?
