Carolyn Brown: Hi y’all and thank you for inviting me to stop by here on my blog tour for How to Marry a Cowboy. Mason and Annie Rose are here with me and I understand that you have questions for all of us so fire away.

Jamie and Kati: What was your inspiration for this book?
CB: Well, it kind of started way back in the first book of the series, Billion Dollar Cowboy, when someone said that Mason Canyon had these two girls who could scale a glass wall on a rainy day. Then it was repeated in the second book and someone else talked about his ornery twins in the third book. So I began to wonder just how a cowboy would handle a couple of feisty little girls who demanded that he give them a “real mama”, not a nanny for their birthday. What kind of problems would that bring about and how in the devil it would affect the whole ranch?

J&K: Is this a series or a single title?
CB: Both. It’s the last book in the Cowboys & Brides series but it’s also a single title cowboy romance. All of the books in this series can really be read in any order but this one does finish the series. The first one, Billion Dollar Cowboy, came out in June of 2013 and was followed by The Cowboy’s Christmas Baby (Oct. 2013) and then The Cowboy’s Mail Order Bride (Feb. 2014). Of course Lily and Gabby, the twin girls in the book say that this is the most important book in the series because they get to play secondary characters in it.

J&K: What comes first? Characters or plot?
CB: I think they’re all tangled up together like a ball of used barbed wire. In How to Marry a Cowboy, Mason was one of the four cowboys who showed up on my virtual porch with his hat in his hand and his boots all shined up wanting me to tell his story. At first, I told those four cowboys a definite, NO! And that was because I can’t write about something I don’t know and I’ve never been rich. So how can I write about it? But they assured me that they were just good old boys with money. And how could I refuse when they were so sexy so the character came first—right? Well, not really because I already knew those little girls wanted a mama so the plot was already in my head? So the plot came first. Well, rats! Now I’m confused and the barbed wire is pretty hard to untangle.

J&K: Why do you write about Texas cowboys?
CB: They are sexy. They have slow Texas drawls. They wear their jeans right. They love their mamas. Did I mention that they are sexy?

J&K: Since this is the last cowboy romance in this series, what’s next for you?
CB: I’m starting a brand new series in October called the Burnt Boot series with the debut book titled, Cowboy Boots for Christmas (Cowboy Not Included). If you read Cowboy Seeks Bride you met three more O’Donnell cowboys who are cousins to the Ringgold cowboys from the Spikes and Spurs series. Finn, Sawyer and Rhett are the heroes in three books in the new series.

And now it’s your turn to answer a question—what is it about cowboy romance books that you like?
