REAVER by Larissa Ione
Genre: Paranormal
Series: Lords of Deliverance #5; Demonica #10
Format: ebook via Netgalley
Length: 416 pages
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing (December 17, 2013)

Reaver is an angel with a past, a record, and a less-than-heavenly attitude. Powerful enough to fight alongside the fiercest battle angels-and crazy enough to risk his wings on a one-way mission to hell-he's agreed to go where no angel has ever gone before . . . to steal the most seductive and dangerous prize of Satan himself.

Harvester is one of the Fallen, a once-heroic angel who sacrificed her wings to work as an undercover agent in hell. But now her cover has been blown, and she's doomed to an eternity of agonizing torture. Even if Reaver can snatch her away from Satan's lair, even if they can fight their way out of the underworld's darkest depths, there is one thing Harvester can never escape-her newfound thirst for an angel's blood . . .

REVIEW: (contains spoilers if you haven't read the previous Lords of Deliverance books)

Holy father of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse! Ya'll don't understand just how long I've been waiting for Reaver's story. It feels like ages and I finally snuck away for some reading time. So glad I did. I recommend you read the previous books in the series so you'll get the backstory between Reaver, the Horsemen and Harvester.

And it goes something like this...

Reaver: Well crap. I have this feeling that I need, no, must, rescued Harvester from the pits of hell. Right after I come to terms that I am the father of the Four fucking Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Harvester: *in the pits of hell getting tortured* Well, so much for going a little too undercover for all that is Good and Holy even though my father is Satan.

Reaver: *goes to get help from archangels to rescue Harvester* What the fuck do you mean you all won't help me? Didn't she fall to help you?

Rafael: *on the down low* Yo bro, here's something that may help you but don't let anyone know where you got it.

(Read this with Morgan Freeman's voice...) In a time long, long ago —five thousand years ago to be exact—a battle angel fell in love with another angel. As with any young man, he was full of piss and vigor, and did not see what was in front of him. Of course, the angel he fell in love with got scared by one little kiss. The battle angel ended up doing the smexy with a succubus and fathered the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The angel, Verrine knew about the children but decided not to tell him. Once the battle angel found out about this betrayal, he went ballistic. Verrine took an oath to watch over the battle angel's children by becoming their Sheoulic Watcher—she was after all Satan's daughter before he fell. Through the years, Verrine—known as Harvester now—watched the children grow while trying to thwart the apocalypse. During that time, the memory of the battle angel was wiped from everyone's mind—including his— except Harvester's. The only problem? She doesn't remember what he looks like.

Cue creepy and foreshadowing music...

Reaver: Fuck all y'all. I'm going to rescue Harvester even though you won't help me. I'll get my own assassins.

Cue fight scenes while Reaver and three assassins venture through hell trying to find and rescue Harvester. Once they find her, they start making their way back to a Harrowgate to transport them to the human realm.

Harvester: Really?! You came to rescue me? Well isn't this just peachy? And why do I have these sexual feelings towards you?

Reaver: Cause I'm a hunk of blonde male goodness. The feelings are apparently mutual. *looks down at peen* Traitor.

Cue some confessions, the loss of a few assassins, Satan catching up with them, the threat of Lucifer being reborn, some super sexy times that will have you remembering the episode of Buffy where she and Spike literally bring the house down, more fighting, betrayal, recovered memories, and the Black Moment that will have your heart racing.

Seriously Hollywood, when is this book series going to be made into a TV series or even a movie? I have been struggling with this review since I finished the book. There's so many things I want to share but I don't want to spoil it. The only spoiler for the series is that you now know Reaver is the father of the Horsemen.

In this book we get to find out what's happening with the Horsemen as well as the characters at Underworld General (Demonica series). There are some new characters that I can't wait to see more of. Reaver is a heart pounding, laugh-out-loud, heart breaking, adrenaline rush inducing, super sexy read. Definitely worth a re-read for me.

P.S. The teaser for the next book in the series, Revenant, made me want more.

Favorite Quote:
For years he'd been the Horsemen's Heavenly Watcher, but the dynamic of their relationship had changed since he'd discovered they were his offspring. He'd been fired as their Watcher, and worse, he wasn't sure how to be a father to five-thousand-year old legends.
