December Joyathon 2013: Roni Loren's 12 Romance Heroes of Christmas + #Giveaway (US/CA)

Roni Loren's books have kept us reading into the early hours and has made Kati giggle every time she passes by The Ranch in Austin. For fans of Roni's work, you'll know what we're referring to ;) For those who don't know, be sure to add Roni's books to your TBR pile to find out what The Ranch is.

Meet Roni:
Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. Since then, her flirting skills haven’t improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has. She is the National Bestselling Author of The Loving on the Edge series from Berkley Heat.

Roni's 12 Romance Heroes

So when Jamie and Kati announced that this year’s theme would be a calendar of heroes, I, of course, had a few that immediately popped into my head. Jamie from Outlander, Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse series, Dmitri from Vampire Academy. But I did a similar list at some point last year on another blog. So I thought what might be fun is to force myself to pick my twelve favorite heroes from my reading THIS year. Now, this doesn’t mean that the book was published in 2013, just that I read it this year. I keep a list on Pinterest of what I’ve read, so it’s easy to look back and pull from the list.

So here are my top 12 heroes from my 2013 reading list—in no particular order because I don’t want any of them to get jealous. ; )

Mr. January – Nicholas Stafford from Jude Deveraux’s A Knight In Shining Armor
This is a classic romance read that I hadn’t read before. Time-travel story with a modern heroine and a sexy, chivalrous knight. An epic romance that still makes me feel all warm and fuzzy thinking about it. (Time travel romance)

Mr. February – Nicholas (another Nick!) from Painted Faces by L.H. Cosway
Okay, so this one gets major points for the uniqueness. Nicholas is a straight, alpha drag queen hero. I know, right? Sounds like it could never work, but it totally does. A fun, quirky read. (Erotic romance)

Mr. March – SΓΈren from Tiffany Reisz’s The Mistress
A sexy, intense, dominant priest. Gotta love a hero that is both hot and terrifying. ;) This book is part of the Original Sinners series (BDSM), so you shouldn’t start with this one. But the whole series is fantastic. (Erotica)

Mr. April – Meoraq from The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith
Hmm, my theme is turning out to be unique heroes I guess. Meoraq is a lizardman/alien. And this book is so not what I normally would read. But after seeing lots of buzz online, I tried it and loved it. Meoraq has a long journey to go on as a character but he turned out to be one of the best heroes I’ve read in a long time. And yes, a romance between a lizardman and a human totally worked, lol. (Erotic sci-fi romance/horror—yeah, you read this one and try to pin it in a genre, lol.)

Mr. May – Zachary Benedict from Judith McNaught’s Perfect
I tried to read a few retro romances this year since I didn’t grow up reading romance and missed a lot of the classics. Zachary is a movie star wrongly accused of murder who escapes from prison and takes the heroine hostage. It turned out to be such a satisfying love story and was 80s-tastic on top of it, bringing in real life movie stars like Patrick Swayze for “cameos”. That was fun. :-) (Contemporary romance)

Mr. June – Bennett from All of You by Christina Lee
A sexy tattoo artist hero who is also a virgin. Really, what more do I need to say? (New Adult)

Mr. July – Jake Epping in Stephen King’s 11/22/63
Okay, this pick is a little out of the box because technically this isn’t a romance novel—it’s time travel about the JFK assassination. But, this book has a really prominent romantic subplot and it’s so sweet and lovely and the way the book ended--*heart squeeze*

Mr. August – Alessandro from A Little Too Far by Lisa DesRochers
Okay, yes, another priest—well, sort of, he’s training to be a priest. This story is a love triangle between the girl, an almost priest, and her stepbrother. Yeah. How can you not read that? I’m not giving away who she ends up with, but I will say that the sexy Italian almost priest definitely deserves his own calendar page. (New Adult)

Mr. September – Ben from The Seduction Hypothesis by Del Dryden
I love a geek hero, even put one in my last book, Caught Up In You. But Del Dryden knows how to do geek full throttle (think Big Bang Theory). This is also a BDSM series, so kink meets geek. And Ben is so adorable and fun. Both books in the series were great reads. (Erotic Romance)

Mr. October – Kelly in After Hours by Cara McKenna
Kelly is about as alpha as they come but still maintains his sense of humor and can be very sweet with the heroine. The book takes place in the gritty setting of a rundown town and the inpatient mental ward where the hero and heroine work. (Erotic Romance)

Mr. November – Cam in Aftermath by Cara Dee
This is a m/m romance with two heroes who were kidnapped and held in captivity together. The scary parts are show in flashback, and the present is where the relationship develops. I loved both heroes, but particularly loved that Cam was Asperger’s and that was written well. My son is on the spectrum so I’m picky about those things. (M/M Erotic Romance)

Mr. December – Levi from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
A beta hero who is such a solid, truly good guy that you just want to eat him up. This book one of my favorite reads of the year, and even though I tend to be an alpha hero junkie, I want my own Levi. (New Adult)

So that’s my list! It’s been quite a year. ;-)

Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!
