THE TEMPTATION OF LILA AND ETHAN by Jessica Sorensen
Genre: New Adult
Series: The Secret series #3
Format: ebook via Netgalley
Length: 336 pages
Publisher: Forever (October 22, 2013)

On the surface, Lila Summers is flawless: good looks, expensive clothes, and a big, beautiful smile. But a dark past and even darker secrets are threatening to bubble over her perfect fa├žade. She'll do anything to keep the emptiness inside hidden-which leads her into situations that always end badly. Whenever she hits bottom, there's only one person who's there to pull her out: Ethan Gregory.

Ethan set the rules a long time ago: he and Lila are just friends. He doesn't do relationships. Although his tattooed, bad boy exterior is a far cry from Lila's pretty princess image, Ethan can't deny they have a deeper connection than he's used to. If he's not careful, he could be in serious danger of becoming attached-and he's learned the hard way that attachment only leads to heartbreak.

When Lila falls farther than she ever has before, can Ethan continue to help as a friend? Or is he also getting close to falling . . . for her?

REVIEW:

Holy Crap!

Ever since these two made an appearance in the Ella and Micha books I’ve been wondering about them. Lila is Ella’s best friend from school and Ethan is Micha’s best friend from home. While watching Ella and Micha try and get together these two spent a lot of time together. With only a few glimpses into their unconventional friendship I was very excited to see what really went on with them.

Temptation starts about a year after Forever ends. Lila, who seemed almost perfect, is in a downward spiral. Her father has taken away her car and her money. She has taken a semester off from college and is basically partying and sleeping around. When we first met Lila she comes off as perfect. She’s rich, beautiful and happy. But underneath that she has a dark secret. Her life isn’t perfect. It hurts and she uses her pills to numb that pain. It’s after a night of partying, blacking out and having to call Ethan to pick her up that we see just how far she has fallen.

All Ethan wants to do is be left alone. He likes his solitude. Ethan has been living in Vegas and working. He’s used to picking up Lila but when he discovers that she hasn’t paid her rent and has no money that he starts to notice that the Lila he knew doesn’t exist anymore. He’s always kept his distance from her knowing that if he gets to close he’ll have to get involved in her troubles. Something he doesn’t want. But when he discovers her addiction to pills he can’t walk away. The last time he did something bad happened and he lost the one person he loved.

I was not expecting this. This was a lot darker then I thought it was going to be. I thought the person with the bigger demons was going to Ethan. Shows you what I know. Lila is dark. She has some serious issues, and while Ethan has his own set of issues it’s him who is trying to pick the pieces of Lila up.

The sexual tension between these two is off the charts. They have been dancing around their attraction for a while and being in such close quarters really starts to wear on them. But Lila uses sex to check out and Ethan doesn’t want that with her. Plus, sex changes things and Ethan doesn’t want to screw up his friendship with her. Because he actually enjoys talking and being with her. But when they finally let the tension go, they both explode.

I’ve always loved Ethan and this just proves it. Yes, he has that bad boy vibe but he is really a good guy, though just don’t tell him that. And Lila, girl has issues. But once she agrees to let go and forget what her parents say she really comes into her own. I loved watching her grow and become who she was meant to be and not the fake Lila.

While you can read Temptation as a stand alone I think it would be better if you read the first two books and Ella and Micha first. This may be my favorite Jessica Sorensen book yet. There is just something real about Lila and Ethan that I really connected to.
