SLOW SUMMER BURN by Elisabeth Barrett

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 296 pages

As the sizzling Star Harbor series concludes, the fourth sexy Grayson brother, a dedicated DEA agent, shows a high-society beauty the true meaning of love.

Cameron Stahl has everything, so why does she feel like her life is incomplete? A beautiful Boston socialite and a successful entrepreneur, she’s just opened her second boutique in Star Harbor and business is booming. But one searing look from Val Grayson sends fire through her body and shows her exactly what’s missing from her life: a real man who doesn’t play games and who makes her feel like the most desired woman on earth.

DEA agent Val Grayson has always looked after his brothers. Now it’s his turn to find love—though Cam is the last sort of woman he ever dreamed he’d fall for. When courageous Cam realizes she has the insider connections to help Val take down a major drug player within Boston’s political elite, he can’t stop her from putting herself in danger. But as the drug bust of his career looms, all Val cares about is saving the woman he loves before it’s too late.

OMG! How have I not picked up a book by Elisabeth Barrett until now? I will definitely be going back and reading the rest of the Star Harbor books.

Take one high society beauty whose family tries to force nothing but the best for her including the prominent son of a politician, add one intensely sexy DEA agent who will do anything for his family, mix with strong pheromones, a dash of sultry summer nights, a pinch of mystery and you've got a fantastic beach read.

Cameron Stahl's mother is quite overbearing and thinks she knows what's best for Cameron. Cameron doesn't think so and goes on to create a thriving little business in Star Harbor. She's totally over the the whole glamorous, monotonous, glitzy, repetitive world of fundraisers, schmoozing, looking perfectly put together and doing whatever her mother tells her to do.

Val Grayson is investigating a drug ring that seems to have infiltrated the town of Star Harbor and he will stop at nothing to take down a very prominent man. At least until Cameron comes along. Then things get complicated. And sexy. And steamy. And ohmigoodness. But wait, there's a catch. Val will do anything for his family even if it means choosing them over Cameron. He won't like it but if push comes to shove, he will.

Val doesn't think he's good enough for Cameron. Cameron wants to be with Val but knows he's keeping something from her. Like a huge something. Val doesn't want Cameron involved with his sting but Cameron is the only one with connections to put the final pieces of the puzzle together.

I really enjoyed the way Cameron and Val's relationship grew. They already knew each other thanks to her being friends with his brother's ladies. And a strong attraction is there. They just have to put in a situation where they realize that yes, they are perfect for one another. And they do. It's one of those "I didn't see that coming but in hindsight, it was there at the tip of my tongue."

I will say that I recommend reading the first books in the series before this one because it kept mentioning a sunken ship filled with treasure and a set of keys that would open it. I now have to know the story behind that. Authors tend to save the best for last and I think know I will go back and test my theory.

This is my first Elisabeth Barrett book and it definitely will not be my last.

Favorite Quote:
And every cell in his body was screaming that he wanted Cameron. But he still had doubts. He shouldn't want someone like her. She was too rich, too cultured—too everything that he wasn't.
