I love seeing dream casts for my books, but always struggle to come with actors and actresses. So I asked my street team to come up with it for me.
It’s called delegation, not slacking. ;)
First is Rose Gardner—twenty-four, sweet but spunky, always falling into some kind of trouble. Rose is southern, funny, and has a weak spot for the society castoffs—be it people or dogs. Maybe because she’s a castoff herself. We (don’t you like how I’m part of the collective now?) came up with Isla Fischer.
Next is Joe Simmons—in his late twenties, the strong silent type, maybe because he’s used to hiding his real self when he’s undercover with the Arkansas state police. He’s Rose’s boyfriend and he’s hot. (Duh.) My street team’s suggestions were numerous and I had to make the executive decision to go with Josh Duhamel. (It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.)
Mason Deveraux III, Fenton County assistant DA. He’s considered Henryetta, Arkansas’s second most eligible bachelor, after the mayor, of course. Mason had a rocky start when he moved to town and literally ran into Rose (Twenty-Nine and a Half Reasons) but he and Rose are friends. I’ve made now secret for my own love of Mason (suggesting I write my own fanfic with me as the heroine) so I came up with this one all on my own. Charlie Hunnam, but with less scruff.
Rose’s older sister, Violet Beauregard, is going through a divorce, opening a new business and eager to start a new life, even if it means taking advantage of Rose. There weren’t a lot of suggestions for Violet—probably because my street team has read ARCs of THIRTY AND A HALF EXCUSES and Violet’s not their favorite person right now. I ended up going with Jewel Staite, my BFF and crit partner Trisha Leigh’s suggestion.
Rose’s best friend Neely Kate is back and just quirky as ever. She’s often the voice of reason for Rose and she’s always got her friend’s back. I loved that one of my street team members suggested Candice Accola
Miss Mildred, Rose’s cranky eighty-two year old neighbor is still causing trouble, even resorting to call Mason, the assistant DA, about Rose and Joe “fornicating” in her front yard. Most of my street team agreed Betty White would be perfect.
Jonah Pruitt is the new-to-town televangelist who is turning Henryetta on its head. Jonah’s taken a shine to Rose when he hires her new nursery to spiff up the church grounds, and Rose is pretty sure it’s not for the salvation of her soul. There was never a consensus for Jonah, so I used my executive decision and picked Josh Lucas.
And finally Rose’s dog Muffy. Muffy is a mutt whose physical features don’t match her shining personality. Rose is always having to defend the outward beauty of her dog. Most of my street team thought that the dog from Mike and Molly would be great.
Series: Rose Gardner Mystery #3
Length: 277 pages
Publisher: DGS (September 10, 2013)
Life in Henryetta, Arkansas is turned upside down with the arrival of a televangelist, but it’s the death of a little old lady on Rose’s street that catches her attention. The Henryetta police deem her death natural causes, but Rose suspects foul play and so does an unlikely supporter–-the president of the Busy Body Club, her eighty-two year old neighbor Mildred.
But Rose is in the middle of opening her nursery with her sister Violet, who’s separated from her husband Mike, as well as stalling her boyfriend Joe’s family, rich socialites who are determined to meet her. Along with her multiple encounters with Fenton County’s new assistant DA, Mason Deveraux III, it’s just another day in the life of Rose Gardner–-chaos.
