Blog Tour: Guest Post with Emily Larkin, author of The Countess's Groom + #Giveaway

Meet Emily:
Emily grew up in a house full of words and books -- her mother worked as a librarian and her father was a novelist – so perhaps it’s not surprising that she became a writer.

She loves to travel and has lived in Sweden, backpacked in Europe, and journeyed overland in the Middle East, China, North Africa, and North America. She enjoys climbing hills, yoga workouts, and watching reruns of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly.

Emily writes fantasy novels (with strong elements of romance) as Emily Gee, and regency romance novels as Emily Larkin.

Secret diaries. Rose, the young Countess of Malmstoke, keeps one hidden in a cupboard behind the panelling where her prying maid can’t find it. I’ve never kept a secret diary myself--but then, I’ve never had a highly illicit love affair with a servant, like Rose.

Poor Rose was sold into an abusive marriage to pay her father’s debts. She needs a knight in shining armor to help her escape--and the one that steps forward isn’t an aristocrat, he’s a servant. Articulate, intelligent, brave and resourceful, but still a servant. And she falls in love with him.

Hence the secret diary!

Rose’s diary first came to light in The Spinster’s Secret (released in February), where an impoverished young lady (Mattie) earns her living by writing a series of pornographic stories based on--you guessed it--a secret and highly erotic diary she has found. Having written Mattie’s story, I had to assuage my curiosity about the love affair in the diary! And so the romance between the young countess and the heroic servant who tends her horses came to be written.

Tell me, if you found an old diary detailing an extremely forbidden love affair, what would you do? Read it? Or put it back in the secret cupboard where you found it? Or read it, and then put it back?

I think I’d read it--because I’d want to know how it ended!--and then I think I’d put it back in its secret cupboard behind the panels, for someone else to have the thrill of discovering.

Will has loved Rose since she was brought to Creed Hall as a new bride, but their relationship has only ever been that of mistress and servant. Born worlds apart, Will knows he could never be her husband, but maybe he can be her salvation.

As they plan her escape to the American colonies, Rose learns to trust Will with her life and her heart, but trusting him with her body is another matter. Can she conquer her fear of the marriage bed? Is the future she dreams of—being Will’s wife—possible?
