Shannyn Schroeder is a former English teacher, who now works as a part-time editor while raising her three kids.
Even though she wrote from high school through college (mostly poetry), she’d never considered a career as an author. Writing fell by the wayside as she focused her energy on creating lesson plans and new and fabulous ways to torment her teen students. One group in particular dubbed her “The Torture Master,” a title she carried into motherhood.
After the birth of baby number two, Shannyn resigned from teaching and fell in love with reading romance novels. She read so many books so quickly that her husband teased, “If you’re going to read so many damn books, why don’t you just write one?”
So she did.
That first book is safely buried on her hard drive, but the process set Shannyn on the path to professional author. She came to reading romance later than many, but lives for the happy ending because real life can be depressing. She writes contemporary romance because she enjoys the adventure of new love.
In her spare time, she loves to bake cookies and watches far too much TV, especially cop shows. She is recovering from her Diet Coke addiction, fears putting her foot in her mouth on social media, and has a renewed appreciation for the bad girls of the world.

J&K: Share 5 fun facts about yourself.
- I love to bake. It relaxes me.
- I love my DVR because it allows me to watch even more TV by skipping all commercials.
- I listen to music almost all the time. I prefer country, but sometimes I’ll tune in to the “oldies” station (When did the 80s become old?)
- I’m a mean mom. All the kids in the neighborhood know this.
- I suck at housework. Everyone’s lucky if I manage to get all the laundry done in a week.
SS: MORE THAN THIS is the story of a woman who wants a baby more than anything. Her sister and friend convince her to step out of her comfort zone for the summer and they give her a list of adventures to experience. The adventures don’t always go as planned, but the hero is there to help at every turn. They fall for each other even though they dance around it for a long time.
J&K: What is it that makes your hero and heroine perfect for each other?
SS: Ryan and Quinn are perfect for each other because they balance each other. At their core, they have the same beliefs and desires, but on the surface, they’re opposites. They give each other what they need.
J&K: In one word, describe how you felt when you got “The Call”
SS: Surprised – because I’d just about given up on finding an agent
J&K: Which two authors would you write an anthology with and what would it be about?
SS: I would love to be in an anthology with Shannon Stacey and Bella Andre because we all write about families. Shannon has the Kowalskis, Bella has the Sullivans, and I have the O’Learys. Maybe we could create a new family and each write about one of the siblings. It would be fun.
J&K: Do you have any writing rituals? (blasting music, eating cookies, drinking wine...)
SS: I usually listen to music while I write, but not while I edit. I have M&Ms on my desk in case I want to snack. Other than that, no real rituals. I can write anywhere and pretty much have.
J&K: What are you writing at the moment? Can you give us a sneak peek into your current WIP?
SS: I’m currently working on a couple of things that are not contracted (yet) and are not part of the O’Leary series, so I’m not comfortable sharing. They’re still in first draft stage, which means they’re ugly.
But, I can give you the blurb for A GOOD TIME, which will be out on 7/4:
A passionate free spirit and a sweet-talking playboy sound like a match made in heaven—until life gets in the way of all the fun and games…Lightning Round:
Indy Adams values her freedom above all else. She works hard to support herself, moonlighting as a waitress while she fights for her first big sale in the Chicago real estate market. The last thing she needs is to be tied down, so she doesn’t think twice about declining her philandering boyfriend’s marriage proposal. Besides, she just landed a new client, a wealthy lothario—exactly the kind of guy who would understand her no-strings approach…
Handsome, rich, and charitable, most women jump at the chance to even talk to video game developer Griffin Walker, let alone date him. So he can’t understand why Indy wants nothing more than a few steamy nights together. Despite his romantic track record, Griffin longs for real love—complete with a home and family—and he wants it with Indy. But a blessing in disguise may lead them both to a life they never expected, and give Griffin a chance to show Indy that it’s okay to want more than a good time…

Author’s choice: What is the most important trait you want to see in a hero?
Thanks for visiting us Shannyn!
Ryan and Griffin sat on the black leather couch in Ryan’s living room. They each held a bottle of beer. The White Sox game played on the TV for lack of anything more interesting to watch. Ryan shifted in his seat. He hadn’t been able to get Quinn out of his head for the past week. The more time he spent with her, the more he wanted her, and the more he realized he needed to distance himself from her. Nothing was working, though.
“If you don’t sit still, I’m going to hit you. What’s wrong?” Griffin threw one arm over the back of the couch and leaned back into the corner.
“How can you be so hung up on her? You just met.”
“I’m not hung up. I told her I’d help her with her list. What do you know about speed dating?”
“Not much. I’ve never done it. All I know is a bunch of people move from table to table and try to hook up in a couple of minutes.”
“I’m thinking of setting up a speed dating night at O’Leary’s. What do you think?”
“Isn’t your bar already a place where people go to pick up strangers?”
“The format takes the awkwardness out of it. I think it’d be easier for shy people.”
“Like Quinn. I can’t believe you’re trying to . . . woo her.”
“Woo? Who the fuck says that?”
“I can’t think of another word to fit. You’re going out of your way to do a bunch of crap to make her like you. What’s next, a love poem? Why don’t you ask her out?”
Ryan puffed out his cheeks with a breath of frustration. “I have. She won’t date me because I can’t be her summer romance.”
