Jamie and Kati: Hi Sheila! Welcome to Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance.
Sheila Roberts: I’m happy to be here.
J&K: Share 5 fun facts about yourself.
- I’m a chocoholic.
- I’m also a songwriter. (Check out “Merry Christmas Mama” on Youtube to see the music video we made for my Christmas novel, “Merry Ex-mas”.)
- I love to entertain.
- I love to bake (This comes in handy for entertaining!)
- I’ve been happily married for .... centuries.
SR: This is probably one of my favorite books. It’s written for us women but it’s all about guys trying to figure out what women want. It centers on a group of poker buddies who decide to solve their woman problems using romance novels as their textbooks. And these guys can use all the help they can get. My shy, geeky hero Jonathan Templar has been in love with the same woman since they were kids but she’s never seen him as anything but a friend. He needs a love coach. And a makeover! His pal Kyle is having trouble getting the office hottie to look his direction. He’s sure it’s because he’s short. I think his problem is more that he’s shortsighted. Then there’s their pal Adam. He needs husband lessons. Vance Fish. Is he a hopeless cynic? And what makes Bernardo such a successful husband? I hope I’ve piqued your interest enough that you’ll want to find out.
J&K: What is it that makes your hero and heroine perfect for each other?
SR: She’s sweet and fun and he’s got a big heart. They have common interests and have known each other for years. They would be great together. Now, he’s just got to figure out a way to make her see that.
J&K: For readers who aren’t familiar with your work, which book would you recommend they start with?
SR: If you’re into starting at the beginning of a series you could check out “Better Than Chocolate.” That’s more women’s fiction with a romance thrown in. But this books stands well on its own and I think it’s a fun read.
J&K: Which two authors would you write an anthology with and what would it be about?
SR: Oh, gosh, that’s a hard one. There are so many wonderful authors out there. I’m thinking probably my friends Susan Wiggs and Debbie Macomber. They’re both wonderful writers. Not sure what it would be about, but I’m betting we’d come up with something fun.
J&K: Do you have any writing rituals? (blasting music, eating cookies, drinking wine...)
SR: Not really. Although I find that chocolate helps me think. (It doesn’t help my hips much, but we won’t go there.
J&K: What are you writing at the moment? Can you give us a sneak peek into your current WIP?
SR: Current WIP is “The Icicle Falls Book Club”, and it’s about a group of friends trying to simplify their lives. But whether that involves downsizing or trying to figure out a romance, life just isn’t always that simple!
Alpha or Beta? Like ‘em both.
Wallflower or Belle of the Ball? Love to root for the underdog, so wallflower.
Debutante or Spinster? Oh, let’s help the spinster. The debutante still has time to find Mr. Perfect.
Virgin widow or Secret baby? Um, Pass.
Titled peer or Working man? Peer.
Love at first sight or Second chances? Both.
Naval officer or Swashbuckling pirate? Oooh, I love pirates. I’ll take one who looks like Johnny Depp, please.
Vampires or Shifters? Um, no thanks.
Western Historicals or Western Contemporaries? Historicals, please.
Writing or Reading? Both!
Paperbacks or e-books? Paperback.
Plotter or Pantser? Plotter. I like to know where I’m going!
Author’s choice: Where is your favorite place to read?

Jonathan Templar and his poker buddies can't figure it out. Take Jonathan, for instance. He's been in love with Lissa Castle since they were kids but, geek that he is, she's never seen him as her Mr. Perfect. He has one last shot—their high school reunion. Kyle Long is equally discouraged. The pretty receptionist at his office keeps passing him over for other guys who may be taller but are definitely not superior. And Adam Edwards might be the most successful of Jonathan's friends, but he isn't having any success on the home front. His wife's kicked him out.
When Jonathan stumbles on a romance novel at the Icicle Falls library sale, he knows he's found the love expert he's been seeking—Vanessa Valentine, top-selling romance author. At first his buddies laugh at him for reading romance novels, but soon they, too, realize that these stories are the world's best textbooks on love. Poker night becomes book club night…and when all is read and done, they're going to be the kind of men women want!
