Jamie's Juicy Tidbits: RITA Books

It’s that time of year! No, not that time. It’s RITA time. What are the RITA’s? Well, it’s like the Oscars but for books. These are essentially the best of the best books for the year in the romance genre. There are 11 categories such as Historical Romance, Paranormal Romance, Romantic Suspense and Best First Book. You should go to the RWA website and take a look.

Anyway, they final nominees were announced on Tuesday and there are a lot of great books that made the cut. Unfortunately there are only so many hours in the day, and so many days in the week that I will never get to read all of them before July 30 when the winners are announced at the National RWA conference.

Interview with Jessica Sorensen + Giveaway (US/CA)

We're kinda getting into this whole New Adult genre and today we have Jessica Sorensen, author of The Secret of Ella and Micha.

Meet Jessica:
I’m the author of the Fallen Star Series, the Darkness Falls Series, the Death Collectors Series, and the New York Times and USA Today Best Seller, The Secret of Ella and Micha, a New Adult Contemporary novel.

I love writing and reading almost anything that is YA. Some of my favorite authors are Cassandra Clare, Sarah Dessen, Becca Fitzpatrick, Abbi Glines, Tammara Webber, Jamie McGuire and Jennifer L. Armentrout. I’m also an avid watcher of TV series The Vampire Diaries and of Modern Family.

I absolutely love music. When I’m writing, 9 out of 10 times I have music blaring in the background. My list of favorite songs could go on and on, since I have a very broad taste in music. But a few of my favorite bands are Chevelle, Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Brand New, Death Cab for Cutie, Flight 409, Nirvana, and I’m going to stop there or else I’ll keep going on forever.

I don’t really have any favorite movies, but a few that I could watch over and over again are Anywhere but Here, Juno, Pride and Prejudice, The Hangover, and Bad Teacher.

Blog Tour: Love Reclaimed by Sorcha Mowbray + Giveaway

Today we are hosting Sorcha Mowbray during her blog tour for the third book in The Market Series, LOVE RECLAIMED. She is sharing a bit about her book as well as an excerpt.*

Meet Sorcha:
Sorcha Mowbray is a mild mannered office worker by day...okay, so she is actually a mouthy, opinionated, take charge kind of gal who bosses everyone around; but she definitely works in an office. At night she writes romance so hot she sets the sheets on fire! Just ask her slightly singed husband.

She is a longtime lover of historical romance, having grown up reading Johanna Lindsey and Judith McNaught. Then she discovered Thea Devine and Susan Johnson. Holy cow! Heroes and heroines could do THAT? From there, things devolved into trying her hand at writing a little smexy. Needless to say, she liked it and she hopes you do too!

*Excerpt is super sexy and may require a bucket of ice. You've been warned.

Now, you all know how I feel about the BDB and I promised Kati that I wouldn’t keep badgering you all with my love.*

Jamie's Juicy Tidbits: A mini #review of An Introduction to Pleasure by Jess Michaels

Series:Mistress Matchmaker series, Book 1
Format: PDF
Genre: Historical
Length: 232 pages
Publisher: Samhain (June 19, 2012)

An innocent lady’s education could be a gentleman’s wicked seduction.

Lysandra Keates is running out of options. Her father is dead, her mother is ill, and her efforts to find respectable employment have ended in failure. With her small savings bleeding away, she swallows her pride—and her terror—and turns to Vivien Manning, an infamous courtesan, to match her with a wealthy protector.

For years, Viscount Andrew Callis has lived a monastic existence at his country estate, hardening his body against the snobbish, lazy young man he once was, hardening his heart against grief over the deaths of his wife and infant son. When Vivien asks him to spend one month training a young woman in the ways of a mistress, his mind resists…but his body responds with an ache he thought long dead.

As Andrew begins his gentle tutelage, he finds himself falling under the spell of Lysandra’s innocent charms. And as they give in to the powerful hunger, the last thing Andrew ever expected, or wanted, forms between them. An emotional connection that could carry them well past the training period—if only Andrew can open his heart to the possibility of love.

Other Books in Series:

As we all know by now, I’m a series whore. If I can I always like to start at the beginning of a series. But sometimes it can’t be helped and I find myself in the middle of a series. Though if it’s a great book I will go back and read the books I’ve missed in the series. That is what happened with Jess Michaels’ Mistress Matchmakers Series.

I read and reviewed book 2 in the Mistress Matchmakers Series, For Desire Alone, and loved it. Now, I have book 3 waiting for me to review but I wanted to start from the beginning since Vivien is the heroine of that book and she is the Mistress Matchmaker. So today I bring you a mini review of book 1: An Introduction of Pleasure.

Studio Smexy Saturdays: Cynthia Woolf + Giveaway (ebook)

A note from Jenn: CYNTHIA!!! First of all Cindy is a fellow member of Colorado Romance Writers, my local chapter. She is one of the first people I met when I walked into my first meeting and she was so sweet and welcoming it was wonderful. We did some critiques together, but both moved on to other work, and she has been publishing books like CRAZY over the past year. I was so excited to see one of MY images pop up on her latest release, I emailed her right away.

Design credit on this cover goes to RomCon, they're doing pre-made covers now!! Isn't that COOL?!?!?

So everyone please welcome the quite prolific Cynthia Woolf.

Meet Cynthia:
Cynthia Woolf was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in the mountains west of Golden. She spent her early years running wild around the mountain side with her friends.

She was and is an avid reader. Her mother was a librarian and brought new books home each week. This is where young Cynthia first got the storytelling bug. She wrote her first story at the age of ten. A romance about a little boy she liked at the time.

Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband Jim and her critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

Jamie's Juicy Tidbits: New Adult

There seems to be a new trend in the romance world. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of talk about New Adult books. And yes, I may be a bit behind on the trend but that’s because I’m always late to the party. So, what is this New Adult trend?

Well, from what I’ve read, and it hasn’t been a whole lot, it seems that New Adult is hitting that in between age group. The main characters seem to be in their college years to mid twenties. They are older then their Young Adult counterparts but they are not quite in the settling down phase.

Blog Tour: Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt + Giveaway (US)

Elizabeth Hoyt's Maiden Lane series are full of danger, intrigue and love stories that will leave you sighing. Today she is sharing some fun things about the Ghost of St. Giles as well as an excerpt from Lord of Darkness.

Meet Elizabeth:

Elizabeth Hoyt is the New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestselling author of historical romance, including reader favorite, The Raven Prince.

Elizabeth was born in New Orleans but grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was fortunate to be able to travel extensively as a child, visiting St. Andrews, Scotland; Germany; France; and Belgium. She spent a year in Oxford, England and was a summer exchange student to Kawasaki, Japan.

Elizabeth has a BA in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and, as a result of having no clue what to do with her life thereafter, a career history as a barista, a (terrible) sales clerk, a Wisconsin Revenue Service data entry slave, and an archeological field work grunt. Fortunately, Elizabeth married relatively young and produced two children who kept her busy until her mid-thirties. At about this time, when her youngest was entering Kindergarten, Elizabeth’s mother hinted that perhaps Elizabeth should get a Real Job.

Sadly, Elizabeth was so delusional she thought writing a romance novel might qualify as a Real Job.

But! Five years later, to everyone’s surprise, she actually sold that romance novel (The Raven Prince) and began a rather successful career as a Romance Novelist. This was most fortunate since Elizabeth is singularly unqualified to do anything else but Make Up Stories.

Since then Elizabeth has written eleven books to critical acclaim: The Prince Trilogy (The Raven Prince, The Leopard Prince, and The Serpent Prince); the Legend of the Four Soldiers series (To Taste Temptation, To Seduce a Sinner, To Beguile a Beast, and To Desire a Devil); and the Maiden Lane series (Wicked Intentions, Notorious Pleasures, Scandalous Desires, Thief of Shadows, Lord of Darkness and the upcoming Duke of Midnight.) All of Elizabeth’s books are set in eighteenth century England and all feature a fairy tale story that serves as a foil to the main story.

Elizabeth lives in central Illinois with a trio of untrained canines and a garden in constant need of weeding.
