Sealed with A Kiss: Elizabeth Essex + Giveaway (US/CA)

Welcome to day six of our Sealed with A Kiss event. She's sharing a fun letter between the hero and heroine of A Breath of Scandal with a fun intro.

Meet Elizabeth:
When not rereading Jane Austen, mucking about in her garden and simply messing about with boats, award-winning author Elizabeth Essex can be always be found with her laptop, making up stories about heroes and heroines who live far more exciting lives than she. It wasn’t always so. Long before she ever set pen to paper, Elizabeth graduated from Hollins College with a BA in Classics, and then earned her MA in Nautical Archaeology from Texas A&M University. While she loved the life of an underwater archaeologist, she has found her true calling writing lush, lyrical historical romance full of passion, daring and adventure.

Elizabeth lives in Texas with her husband, the indispensable Mr. Essex, and her active and exuberant family in an old house filled to the brim with books.

The first love letter sent and received between lovers is always an occasion of import, and needs to be approached with both enthusiasm and necessary caution. A warm style must be achieved, but a delicate touch must also be employed~Too much and one exposes oneself. Too little and one does not expose one’s finer feelings enough.

And so this dilemma presented itself to Will Jellicoe and the object of his tenderest and most enthusiastic desire, Miss Antigone Preston, as was.

Here, dear readers, is their go of it~

“Captain, sir. I have a letter for you.”

The young midshipman stood upon Will Jellicoe’s quarterdeck with his hand outstretched, bearing within his none-too-clean grip a folded and sealed epistle.

“A letter?” Will asked, rather unnecessarily. As if he wasn’t at that moment looking at the damn thing with his own eyes. But his ship was in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, and they had not spoken to another vessel in days. And they had not met with a Royal Navy dispatch cutter for at least a week.

“It’s from Mrs. Jellicoe, sir.”

Ah. Well, that changed the complexion of the thing entirely. They had been so lately married that he had not never before had the opportunity to receive a letter from her. Something that must be marital pleasure began to warm his gut. “Thank you, Mr. Little. You may go.”

Will took up the missive, and the moment the boy’s back was turned he took a surreptitious sniff of the paper to find the barest delicate trace of Mrs. Jellicoe’s calendula flower scent. But it was enough.

He tore the seal open to read her handwriting, quick, decisive and effortlessly graceful, slanting across the page.

I do hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits, my dear captain. I should very much like to report the same, but I fear it is not so, for I already miss you beyond my power to endure. I cannot reconcile myself to waking up without you by my side. And I find I must ask myself, What is the use in being married to the handsomest, most charming, most delightful man on the entire surface of the earth~and I do pray my missive does find you still upon the surface and not below~if I find myself so distressingly alone? And yet, I suppose it must be endured, for you are undoubtedly a personage of great importance now~a distinguished post Captain~with an entire ship at your able command. Yet, how am I to endure? How am I to make the best of this trying time alone? I lie in never greater need of your wisdom and counsel on the matter, dear Captain. And I entreat you, my dearest, newest husband, to make your way most speedily back to my bed.

Ever and only yours ~
