December Joyathon: Interview with Stefanie Sloane + Giveaway (International)

Stefanie Sloane's first appeared on the blog while promoting the fourth book in her Regency Rogues series. It was such a blast to be a part of it that we had to invite Stefanie to celebrate our Joyathon with us. Kati got to meet Stefanie this past summer for a hot minute and absolutely had a fangirl moment (the whole 'omgomgomg it's Stefanie Sloane. Do I look at her? Do I say something? Do I just smile?!') We're so glad she's celebrating the season with us.

Meet Stefanie:
A native Northwesterner with the pale skin to prove it, Stefanie Sloane credits her parents’ eclectic reading habits—not to mention their decision to live in the middle of nowhere—for her love of books. A childhood spent lost in the pages of countless novels led Sloane to college, where she majored in English. No one was more surprised than Sloane when she actually put her degree to use and landed a job in’s editorial department. She spent more than five years reading for a living before retiring to concentrate on her own stories. Stefanie Sloane lives with her family in Seattle.

Jamie and Kati: Hi Stefanie! Welcome back to Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance. Thanks for celebrating our 2nd Annual December Joyathon with us :)

J&K: Who is Stefanie Sloane during the holidays? (author, gift giver, last minute shopper, baker)
Stefanie Sloane:
All of the above despite my best intentions. The holidays always find me trying to hold on to my schmidt—and failing miserably. This is what spiked eggnog is for.

J&K: What’s your favorite holiday memory?
My husband and I were engaged, but for some reason that I cannot recall we couldn’t manage to coordinate schedules so that we were together for Christmas. So there I was, Christmas morning with my family in front of the tree, when what should appear but nine tiny reindeer! Ok, not Rudolph. Something—or someone, rather, even better! My husband had celebrated Christmas Eve with his family then jumped in the car and drove the whole night to reach me in time. He’s a keeper, that one.

J&K: What’s the one holiday book everyone should read?
Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris. You’ll laugh out loud at Sedaris’s wry, intelligent humor. Somehow, he magically transforms the most mundane, everyday situations into hysterical, heart-wrenching fun.

J&K: Which of your heroes would you go on a sleigh ride with? (with permission from the heroine of course)
I think I’d have to go with Nicholas Bourne from my upcoming book, The Scoundrel Takes a Bride. He’s incredibly charming, so I would not be lacking in compliments. Conversation would be lively thanks to his wicked wit. And he’s the most reckless of my heroes yet, so the ride would be an adventure for sure!
J&K: If you’ve written a holiday themed/titled book, what is it about? If you have not, would you write a holiday themed/titled book in the future?
SS: My story, One Perfect Christmas, is in the recently released anthology Naughty & Nice. I’ll hit the highpoints: After being jilted by her fiancĂ©, Jane Merriweather turns to her dear childhood friend, the Honorable Lucas Cavanaugh, for support—and unlocks the smoldering desire simmering in the man’s troubled heart. Frightened by his new found feelings, Lucas flees to Scotland. But when the Christmas season brings them together again, one glance is all that’s needed to reignite his yearning. If Lucas can convince Jane that his intentions are as pure as the falling snow, they’ll turn a dreary December into a joyous Yuletide affair.

J&K: What is the most annoying Christmas song?
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. By the end of this song, I kind of wish the entire family had been run over, you know?

J&K: What are you currently working on? Can you give us a sneak peak?
SS: I’m writing the sixth installment in my Regency Rogues series, entitled The Wicked Widow Meets Her Match. And oh Lord, do I wish I could give you a sneak peek. But I’m still sewing the story together. It’s going to be an amazing tale, though! This is my mantra, say it with me: it’s going to be an amazing tale, though!

Quick questions:
Real tree or fake tree? Well, I live in the Pacific Northwest, where trees grow like weeds. So real all the way.
Specific gifts or gift cards? I feel lame giving gift cards, but I love getting them.
Fruit cake or gingerbread? Gingerbread men, feet first!
Snowmen or snow angels? Snow angels. They’re the lazy person’s snowman.
Home for the holidays or visiting relatives? Definitely home. I’m a cranky traveler, so it’s best to keep me off the roads.
Gifts under the tree throughout the month or Santa delivering all on Christmas Eve? Under the tree throughout the month and Santa brings stocking stuffers and the big gifts Christmas Eve. But we don’t open until Christmas morning. I like to torture my family.
Author’s choice: Since this is a Joyathon, tell me what brings you the most joy during the holiday season.

A notorious scoundrel, the Nicholas Bourne has spent years in the East Indies amassing a fortune through questionable means. Still, his loyalty to his older brother, Langdon, and his childhood friends remains true and trusted. But when Lady Sophia Afton, the woman promised to Nicholas’s brother, seeks his help on a dangerous mission, he is troubled—and torn. Unable to dissuade her from her quest to find a killer, he vows to keep her safe. This makes his mission the hardest test of his wits, honor, and skill. For Sophia is the secret love of his life.

For years, Sophia has planned her daring act of revenge against her mother’s killer. She has painstakingly prepared herself by studying the criminal mind. Now she knows that the moment is right and that Nicholas is the man to help her. But she doesn’t count on the reckless temptation of his rugged sensuality or the captivating intensity in his deep eyes. When desire and emotion intoxicate her as they venture together into the darkest corners of London’s underbelly, Sophia must contend with a yearning even more powerful than the quest for vengeance: the call of love.
