December Joyathon: Interview with Marquita Valentine + Giveaway (International)

Marquita Valentine surprised and delighted readers with her debut book, TWICE TEMPTED. We're so glad she could celebrate our December Joyathon with us this year.

WELCOME BACK TO THE BLOG MARQUITA!!!

Meet Marquita:
Marquita Valentine writes small town romances that are anything but small. Lisa Kleypas, Carly Phillips and Rachel Gibson are among her favorite contemporary authors. Marquita met her husband aka Hot Builder at Sonic when they were in high school. She suggests this location to all of her single friends in search of a good man -- and if that doesn't work, they can console themselves with cheesy tater tots. She lives in North Carolina in a very, very small town with Hot Builder and their two children.

Jamie and Kati: Hi Marquita! Welcome to Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance. Thanks for celebrating our 2nd Annual December Joyathon with us :)
Marquita Valentine:
Thanks for having me, Jamie and Kati. I’m so happy to be back!

J&K: Who is Marquita Valentine during the holidays?
MV: I’m a gift-giver. In fact my husband and I make an entire day of shopping for Christmas presents every year. It ends up becoming a sort of a date for us, since my mother-in-law keeps the kids.

J&K: What’s the one holiday book everyone should read?
MV: The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry. Jim and Della each give up the thing that they value the most for the one they love the most. What’s not to love about that story? It’s so bittersweet and beautiful. And it’s a lesson we could all put in to practice, I think.

J&K: Do you write more or less during the holidays?
MV: Waaay less. I don’t want to miss out on anything with my family and my kids are only little once.

J&K: If you’ve written a holiday themed/titled book, what is it about?
MV: His Christmas Wish, just came out in November. Here’s the blurb:
There's no time like the Present...

War Hero, Joaquin Morales, returns to Holland Springs after years of estrangement from his family...and his wife. His new mission: To convince his wife that they have a Future together.

Falling in love with her husband for the second time was *not* a part of Sage Caswell's plans for the Holiday Season. She's convinced that what they had belongs in the Past.

With the help of a little Christmas magic (and a well-timed snowstorm), can Joaquin and Sage's dreams come true?
J&K: What is the most meaningful/best gift you’ve ever received?
MV:
One of the best gifts I ever received was a Roomba. I kid you not. I stayed at home with my baby and toddler, vacuuming my house (upstairs and down) was practically the last thing on my frazzled mind. So when that thing was delivered by the UPS guy, let me tell you, I almost cried. Mommy hormones I’m sure, but that kind of appliance is the only kind a man is allowed to give his wife. Ever. Unless someone invents an automatic laundry folder. ;)

J&K: What are you excited about for 2013?
MV:
I’m so excited about publishing a Valentine’s Day themed book in February. And publishing three more books in my Holland Springs Series.

J&K: What are you currently working on? Can you give us a sneak peak?
MV:  Currently, I’m working on edits for Drive Me Crazy. Here’s a few lines from the first chapter:
His doctors had it all wrong. Melanie Ann Smith was going to be the death of him, not another 190 mile per hour crash into the wall.

Carter Ambrose grimaced at the socket wrench in his hand, then bent over the engine and began to ratchet the bolt.

For the past three weeks, Melanie had been coming over to his garage to check on him or in her words, “make sure he didn’t go insane from lack of company” while he recuperated. Except she drove him insane, with her short skirts, patterned tights, platform heels and glossy lips.

Damn unnerving if anyone asked him. Though no one ever did, mostly because he wouldn’t tell anyone that he’d started noticing anything about Melanie Ann Smith.

Quick questions:
Christmas Day or Christmas Eve? Christmas Day
Real tree or fake tree? Real
Specific gifts or gift cards? Specific Gifts
Fruit cake or gingerbread? Gingerbread
Just enough decorations or “every tree lighted, blow up snowglobe, snow man in the yard” decorations? Griswold Style ;)
Gifts under the tree throughout the month or Santa delivering all on Christmas Eve? Both.
Author's choice: What’s your favorite song for the Holidays? One of mine is Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley
