Jamie and Kati: Hi Karen! Welcome back to Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance. Thanks for being part of our December Joyathon for a second year :)

J&K: Who is Karen Erickson during the holidays? (author, gift giver, last minute shopper, baker)
Karen Erickson:
All of the above? I still wear my author hat through the holidays. I usually try and cut myself a break during this time but that didn’t happen this year. I’m not that much of a last minute shopper any longer—broke myself of that habit many years ago. Oh, and I’m a big time baker. I love to bake! Last year my oven was down until December 22nd—that was a sad baking Christmas season in my house.

J&K: What are you currently working on? Can you give us a sneak peak?
KE:
Hmm, well I’m literally just finishing up a contemporary romance for Entangled’s Brazen imprint. GAME FOR IT features a sexy football hero and the quirky artist he has to pretend to marry in order to improve his image. Here’s a snippet to whet your appetite:
The door opened, a man’s friendly face suddenly appearing. “Are you ready Mr. Quinn? Mrs. Quinn?”

Oh, God. Her stomach dropped to her toes at hearing her referenced as his wife, she wanted to faint.

“Oh, no you don’t.” Leaning in, he laced his fingers with hers and kissed her. Again.
Slipped her some tongue. Again.

Pulled away from her with such a smug smile on his face she wanted to smack him. Or kiss him.

Okay, kiss him.

“Let’s go baby.” Grinning, he released his hold on her and climbed out of the car, the

crowd waiting at the entrance of the restaurant erupting in a roar like she’d never heard before in her life. He turned to her, offering her his hand and she took it, surprised at the reassuring squeeze. “They’re going to love you.”

When he said it like that, she half believed him.
J&K: If you’ve written a holiday themed/titled book, what is it about? If you have not, would you write a holiday themed/titled book in the future?
KE:
I have too many holiday themed books written. It’s a sickness of mine, I swear! Not only do I love reading them, I also adore writing them. In fact, I’ve created a page special for the holiday season that has all of my holiday-themed titles gathered together in one place. Click here and you can check them all out.

My most current release is part of the new FIVE GOLDEN RINGS anthology (comes out TOMORROW with Avon Impulse—squee!). My novella, entitled HIS PERFECT GIFT, is about a duke who’s decided he’s found the perfect lady to be his duchess. Unfortunately, she’s refused him before and believes she doesn’t have a chance with him ever again. He’s quite determined to ensure she’s wrong.

J&K: Do you write more or less during the holidays?
KE:
Typically I write less but I think I’m going to break with my holiday writing tradition this year. Too many deadlines are staring at me so I must keep working! Though I promise, I will give myself a break.

J&K: What’s your favorite thing about the holiday season?
KE:
I love seeing my kids’ faces light up when they open their presents. Heck, when they run into the living room and see everything spread out, those faces are pretty cool, too.

I also love Christmas music! Until they play it too much, and then I’m over it. LOL

J&K: What holiday movie is more likely to be playing in your house: Elf, A Christmas Story, or Diehard?
KE: Elf! I love that movie so much—the entire family does. It’s become a Christmas tradition to watch it at our house. That and Christmas Vacation. My husband would probably choose Die Hard.

J&K: Which of your heroes would you go on a sleigh ride with? (with permission from the heroine of course)
KE: Well, he’s not published yet but my hero Cameron McKenzie (big brother to Jane from my recent holiday release JANE’S GIFT) is my current favorite hero. He made me really emotional when I wrote his book. There was just something about him (and his heroine, Chloe) that stuck with me. I didn’t want their story to end! He’s damaged, he’s the gorgeous brother of Chloe’s friend who never paid attention to her and when he finally falls, he falls hard.

It’s a really romantic, sexy, sweet book and I can’t wait for it to come out (CAMERON’S HOMECOMING, which is slated for a March 2013 release with Entangled’s Bliss imprint).

Quick questions:
Snowmen or snow angels? Snowmen! I don’t want to lie in the snow, sorry.
Real tree or fake tree? Real tree but we have a fake one
Favorite holiday smell: Fresh pine—this is why I need a real tree again in my life!
Home for the holidays or visiting relatives? Home for the holidays—we have young kids and Santa needed to know they’d always be home.
Christmas Day or Christmas Eve? Christmas Day but my kids wish it was Christmas Eve.
Just enough decorations or “every tree lighted, blow up snowglobe, snow man in the
yard” decorations?
I used to decorate a lot more around the house but I’ve scaled back the last couple of years. My new mantra is less is more.
Author’s choice: Readers: Tell me, do you enjoy reading holiday books? And if you do, what are some of your favorites? My list is endless…
