Jamie and Kati: Hi Vanessa! Welcome back to Romancing Rakes For The Love of Romance and your 2nd year of participating in our December Joyathon :)

J&K: Who is Vanessa Kelly during the holidays? (author, gift giver, last minute shopper, baker)
Vanessa Kelly:
All of the first three – not so much the last. I love eating baked goods but I’d rather someone else make them, although I will bake if pushed to the wall. And although I do take a bit of a break over the holidays, I don’t like to go to long without writing since I tend to lose the thread of whatever book I’m working on. As far as shopping goes, I love to shop and even enjoy last minute shopping!

J&K: If you’ve written a holiday themed/titled book, what is it about? If you have not, would you write a holiday themed/titled book in the future?
My latest book is a holiday romance called His Mistletoe Bride. It’s a Regency-set historical with an American heroine raised in a Quaker household, and a tough, alpha male war hero. They’re wildly attracted to each other but have very different approaches to life. Their love story plays out over the Christmas holiday, with lots of parties and holiday festivities. It’s also the final book in my Stanton Family Series, so there are appearances by other characters from earlier books, including Meredith and Silverton from Mastering The Marquess.
J&K: Do you write more or less during the holidays?
Probably less. Hubby and I like to spend time with the family, and we often have visitors at this time of year, too.

J&K: Which of your heroes would you go on a sleigh ride with? (with permission from the heroine of course)
Probably John, from My Favorite Countess. He’s a doctor and I’m a bit of a hypochondriac, so I’d feel very secure with him. Yeah, that’s kind of pathetic, but he’s also handsome, kind, and smart, so I think I’d enjoy the ride!
J&K: Which 5 authors (dead or alive) would you invite for a holiday feast?
Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, Alexander McCall Smith, Deanna Raybourn, and Loretta Chase. I think that would be a REALLY fun party!

J&K: What is your favorite Christmas story, book or movie?
I love the musical Scrooge, with Albert Finney, Alec Guinness, and Kenneth More. It’s a lush, gorgeous production with a fantastic portrayal of Scrooge by Albert Finney. The cast is superb and the music is really fun, too. It’s a wonderful and underrated movie.

J&K: What can readers expect from you next?
I’m currently working on my new historical series, The Renegade Royals. That kicks off in December 2013 with an introductory novella, and then books one and two follow immediately after in January and February, 2014. It’s a four book, two novella series, with a great, sexy group of heroes. They definitely live up to their name as renegades!

Quick questions:
Favorite holiday smell: cookies baking in the oven
Real tree or fake tree?: Fake – so much easier to deal with!
Specific gifts or gift cards?: A mix of both
Fruit cake or gingerbread?: gingerbread
Just enough decorations or “every tree lighted, blow up snow globe, snowman in the yard” decorations?: I do like lots of decorations, but I draw the line at the blow up snow globes!
Home for the holidays or visiting relatives? Home for the holidays with my hubby, my dad and my stepmother.
Re-gifting: Tacky or is there a sneaky way to do it? If it’s a nice gift and I can’t use it, I don’t have a problem re-gifting it.
Author’s choice: What’s your favorite Christmas tradition?

    Genre: Historical
    Length: 352 pages

When Major Lucas Stanton inherited his earldom, he never dreamed his property would include the previous earl’s granddaughter. Phoebe Linville is a sparkling American beauty, yes, but with a talent for getting into trouble. Witness the compromising position that forced them into wedlock. Whisked away to Mistletoe Manor, his country estate, it isn’t long before she is challenging his rules—and surprising him in and out of bed…

Phoebe has no intention of bowing to Lucas’s stubbornness even though he offers all that she wants. His kisses and unexpected warmth are enticing, but Phoebe is determined to show the Earl of Merritt what real love is all about. And if that takes twelve nights of delicious seduction by a roaring fire, she’s more than willing to reveal her gifts very slowly…
