A devastating house fire cost Jane Clark nearly everything: her husband, her confidence, and her looks, with the physical scars marbling her body. Now, two years later, she’s living and healing back in her childhood hometown of Lone Pine Lake. The upcoming holidays are the perfect opportunity to bring some Christmas cheer into her young children’s lives, starting with a visit to the firehouse, where her brother’s best friend has offered to help quell their residual fears.

Lone Pine’s resident playboy, fire captain Christian Nelson is happy with his single-guy lifestyle. He’s an everyday local hero, so he’s never wanting for attention around the holidays. But when Jane Clark shows up, Chris is immediately drawn to the beautiful widow—even though kids and commitment have never been his style.

Despite her brother’s warnings about his friend’s playboy status and dangerous occupation, Jane can’t help but fall for the gorgeous fire captain. The holidays are a time of new beginnings, but can two scarred people find the strength to let go of their pasts to live in the present, when a lifetime together might be the sweetest gift of all?

First thought I had when I read the blurb of Jane's Gift? Heck yes! If there's a fireman, fire chief or any man that wears turnouts, I'm totally in. I'm easy like that.

I'm going to preface this review with: have Kleenex on hand because you'll tear up a few times. The prologue will make you cry. Thanks Karen Erickson!

Jane Clark lost her husband and home in a fire and is left to raise her three children by herself. She's not really alone since her loving family has been helping out and she's living at her brother's house until she figures out what comes next. She's self conscious of her burns and covers herself up so no one will stare.

Hellooo Christian Nelson, local fire captain! He's a transplant who saw his parents marriage fall apart and he's not the commitment type. Rumor has it, he's a player.

Not the commitment type eh? Well Chris, get ready to have your world turn upside down by Jane and three little hellions. The moment Chris greets Jane at the firehouse door, he's intrigued. He shouldn't be since she's a widow with three kids but there's something there. He invites her to a town charity event, a movie, dinner. Anything to spend time with her. Jane starts to warm up to the idea of spending time with Chris but holds back. Whether it's the memory of her husband or one of her kids not liking the whole Chris situation, she starts to feel guilty. Her family should come first.

Chris is determined to show Jane and she can move on. With him. He even warms up to her kids and they to him. A ready made family. The perfect Christmas gift. At least until a jealous woman who Chris turned down plants a little seed of doubt in Jane's mind.

How far will Chris go to show Jane and her kids that they're The One? Will Jane get over her fear of losing those she loves to fire? Is Christmas really a time for miracles?

Favorite Quote:
"Sorry. I guess I'm too eager to watch big macho firemen work those long hoses in their sexy yellow coats." Mindy laughed and Jane rolled her eyes. "Come on, not much excitement happens for me anymore. I have to get my thrills where I can."
Overall: There's so much I want to say about this book yet I can't seem to find the words. This is a new side of Karen Erickson and I await what she has next in store for readers. It's a sweet story that still makes me believe in the magic of the holidays. I loved every word of it. Every touch, every glance, every whispered word, every heartwarming moment, every blush inducing smexiness. It has the makings of a Hallmark Movie with a dash of sexiness. You'll smile at the children's antics especially Logan. You'll sigh when Chris touches Jane. You'll laugh along with Jane's siblings. And you'll fall in love with the little town of Lone Pine Lake.

I'm a sucker for secondary characters so I can't wait for Jane's brother, Cam's book. Step on it Karen!
