Confession: It took me a month to finish reading this book. At the beginning, I was totally put off by the racial slurs and how much of an asshole Teague's "friend" Taz was. I put the book down. I picked it back up and when Taz got the gutting he deserved, I kept reading. There were times it was hard to keep reading and there were times when I couldn't stop.
Joan Swan's debut definitely sent my head for a spin. Racial slurs aside, the premise is promising. A group of firemen caught in a warehouse fire that turned their lives upside down and sideways. I did want to know more about this mysterious power Teague has and how the government is involved. The story stumbled in some parts, the action was slow but in the end it was a high octane read with car chases, some creepy guy hunting Teague and Alyssa down, Teague and Alyssa's tender yet somewhat volatile relationship, and Teague's need to reunite with his daughter.
He had the most gorgeous ass she'd ever seen. Muscle definition, shape, size, the way his body was so flawlessly proportioned, he made her mouth go dry. And that scar or birthmark or whatever it was and the way it curved around his hip, the tip of a pointed section touching high on one perfect glut, was way too intriguing.
