Jamie and Kati's Best of 2011

Oh my goodness. What a wonderful first year (almost) it has been blogging, reviewing and hosting some of your and my favorite authors. I've met so many wonderful people (okay, "met" = Twitter) in the romance community, squealed like a fangirl so many times, devoured so many books, got sneak peeks at coveted reads and so much more.

Oh, did I mention that I met my internet BFF Jamie Lynn at RomCon in Denver this past summer? Yeah. I did. Today we are sharing our Best Of 2011 List under each category.

Hullo all you lovely readers! I've got the fantabulous Melissa Mayhue on the blog today sharing her latest release, Warrior's Redemption. Let me tell you, this was my first Melissa Mayhue book *waits for gasps to die down* and I love, love, loved it! More highlanders please! I've been stuck in the Regency Era for so long, I've forgotten my first love: Highlanders. Malcolm MacDowylt sees himself a failed warrior, haunted by the death of the woman he married to become laird of Clan MacGahan. Neither his Viking heritage nor his claim to descend from Norse gods can restore his confidence in his ability to protect his people. His sister is held captive, her life in jeopardy, and his Magically powerful half brother wants him dead. The last thing he needs is more responsibility, but that's exactly what he gets when his Faerie mother-in-law arrives seeking justice for her daughter in the form of an enticing woman from seven hundred years in the future.

Danielle Dearmon has waited fifteen years to discover the life she is supposed to live. She just never dreamed she'd end up in the thirteenth century with a handsome Scot bent on saving everyone but himself.

With the lives of those most dear to him hanging in the balance, Malcolm sets out to battle a powerful evil magic, only to learn that the redemption he seeks exists in the arms of the woman he loves.

December Joyathon: Guest Post + Giveaway with Virna DePaul

Meet Virna:

coming 2012
I'm a former criminal prosecutor who loves thrilling, sexy stories about ordinary people overcoming extraordinary obstacles to find love. Like contemporary authors Linda Howard, Lori Foster, Rachel Gibson, Lori Wilde, Sandra Brown and paranormal authors J.R. Ward, Larissa Ione, Nalini Singh (and countless others on my keeper shelves), I hope to bring my readers emotional stories that make them feel and dream and wonder well-after they've finished reading them.

Chosen By Sin, Book 3 in the Para-Ops Series, releases in late December 2011. In this series, the U.S. government forms a special ops team whose members, including a werebeast, wraith, mage, and a vampire and the human female he's forbidden to love, must retrieve a stolen antidote.

I also write contemporary romantic suspense for Harlequin Romantic Suspense and HQN.

Madelaine Alexander is on a mission. When her boss sends her to the hottest nightclub in town to meet with the owner, she won't be deterred, even if that means standing in line for fifty-eight minutes in torturous heels while she'd rather be home in her pj's with a bowl of popcorn.

A Knight of the Templar, Christien Chevalier was given immortality along with the responsibility of protecting the treasure of the Templars. He's been unwavering in his task for centuries until his one true love—who died seven hundred years ago—shows up in his club, demanding his attention.

Christien couldn't protect Madelaine when they first fell in love. She was married to a lord and he was simply a knight. Now, through some unknown miracle, she stands before him again and they have a second chance. But Christien fears that Madelaine is being used as a pawn in a dangerous game, a game of good versus evil that could affect all of mankind...

December Joyathon: Interview+ Giveaway with Joan Swan

Meet Joan:
click for an excerpt
I was never a star English student or a Literature buff, but I've always had a creative soul and an active imagination. Writing was a natural culmination of those two talents.

I write what I like to read: romantic suspense. I write for entertainment and escape--the same reasons I love to read. I prefer real-life language, so you'll find profanity in my work when it fits the character. I prefer open-door sex, so my love scenes are typically hot and steamy. And because my stories involve suspense, you'll often find violence, mystery and an inside look at the intricate world of forensics. Occasionally, I like to dabble in the lighter side of paranormal as well.

A triple RWA Golden Heart finalist as well as a double Daphne Du Maurier finalist, I am a lover of craft and closet-hoarder of writing craft how-to books.

In my day job, I work as a sonographer at UCSF Medical Center, a location with an intensity that makes me slightly insane...which works well with the writer in me. Not to mention all the character material I have access to--and I'm not talking about the patients (well...mostly).

I have been married twenty years to my own personal hero, a veteran firefighter, we have two beautiful daughters and are blessed to live in the heart of wine country on the gorgeous Central Coast of California.

Blog Tour: Interview + Giveaway with Lecia Cornwall

WELCOME TO THE BLOG TOUR:

I requested Lecia Cornwall's The Price of Temptation off Netgalley since it sounded like a fantastic read and boy howdy! it sure as heck was. I jumped at the chance to host this wonderful author on the blog today and she's sharing a little bit about her novella, All the Pleasures of the Season in which her heroine makes the biggest mistake of her life. And to top it off, it's Christmas. No one wants to spend Christmas worrying about if they've chosen the right person to spend forever with when there's celebrations all around. Let's give Lecia a warm welcome:

HOWDY LECIA!!!

Meet Lecia:
I was born in the wrong century.

Don't get me wrong, I'm devoted to the conveniences of this world, especially modern plumbing and good chocolate, but I long for the elegance, grace and adventures of the past.

I've always wanted to be a writer, and a historical writer at that. In fourth grade, I wrote a story about a Welsh mining pony that takes revenge for the horrible conditions in the pits. In sixth grade, my mother got a letter from the teacher after I wrote a story about a grandmotherly shop owner in occupied Europe who lured enemy soldiers into her shop and made sausages out of them. I was probably the only kid in my class who fell in love with the Masterpiece Theatre series The Six Wives of Henry VIII.

As an adult, I became a direct marketing copywriter. When my children were born, I stayed home with them (the best decision I ever made), worked as a freelance writer, and dreamed of writing fiction.

My big chance came when we moved from Ottawa to Calgary, Alberta. Unemployed, I decided to start downloading the daydreams whirling around in my head. After six years of learning and honing my craft, submitting to dozens of contests and editors and agents, I found a wonderful agent (Kevan Lyon) and sold my first book. I discovered the harder you work, the quicker luck comes calling.

When I'm not writing with a cat by my side, I'm volunteering at my daughter's high school, or corresponding with my son at university. In the afternoon, I can usually be found walking my dog and pondering my latest plot by the beautiful Bow River.

I was born in Toronto, raised my family in Ottawa, and now live in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with four cats, two teenagers, a crazy chocolate lab and one very patient husband.

December Joyathon: Interview + Giveaway with Melissa Mayhue

Meet Melissa:
coming soon
First and foremost, I am a reader. Some of my best memories are of my mother taking me to the local library every week during the summer to check out armloads of books. I could hardly wait to get home, dive into the stories, and get lost in a whole new, wonderful world. My prized possession as a girl was an entire shelf of Nancy Drew Mysteries. I adored Nancy Drew.

My first experience with writing a book came at age 13. I developed a fascination with genealogy and, after spending time visiting older relatives to gather information, I found I had all sorts of wonderful family stories. What on earth could I do with all those [mostly false] tales? Why, I'd write a sweeping, 600+ page novel of course! A tale of life through several generations, spanning two centuries. It would be fantastic.

Armed with purpose and enthusiasm, I sat down at my big typewriter, [yes, I'm dating myself...typewriter, not keyboard], and began Page One. Hours later I had almost completed two whole pages. [double spaced, of course]. Hmmmmm... An entire day and I had barely two pages to show for it? [rather boring pages, at that].

Maybe I wasn't cut out to be an author after all.

click to read an excerpt
In spite of my writing setback, I retained my passion for books. I simply concentrated on reading other people's books. Lots of books. All kinds of books. Until I discovered Romance. Finally, a world I could escape to where I knew I'd always find a happy ending! I devoured them, literally reading hundreds.

Years passed before the writing bug seriously bit again. I was working in downtown Denver and, as so many writers advised, every lunch hour I took my pad and pen [actually, I preferred a pencil] and headed for my favorite coffee shop to spend my 50 minutes writing.

Unfortunately, my favorite coffee shop was in a book store. Invariably, I'd end up writing nothing. There were too many fascinating people to watch, too many interesting conversations to hear and then, of course, there were all the books to distract me.

Still, I had these two characters living in my head, wanting their story told...

click to read an excerpt
Then came the summer we took our second family vacation to Scotland. On the Black Isle [which isn't black or even an isle], near the pretty little town of Rosemarkie, we parked our rented car and hiked back into a magically beautiful placed called Fairy Glen. Resting on a large rock at the edge of a waterfall and pool, lulled by the lush nature of the setting, I suddenly realized THIS was the place for Cate and Connor. For the remainder of that trip, I'd catch glimpses of them, in a castle, standing at the foot of a crumbling staircase, or riding through a highland meadow.

Once I finally sat down at my keyboard and decided the time had come to give those two life, I found, amazingly enough, they weren't the only characters running around in my head. There were a bunch of them... all clamoring for their own turn!

My GOAL, as a writer, is to give each of those noisy characters a life in their own story.

My HOPE, as a writer, is that you'll enjoy reading their stories as much as I enjoy writing them! (source)

The Rake and The Recluse: Part 1 Blog Tour with Jenn LeBlanc

AH! I'm super excited today because it is the release of Jenn LeBlanc's The Rake and The Recluse: Part 1. Ok, I know you all probably think I'm crazy saying "Jamie, haven't you been pimping this book for awhile now?". And technically, I have. But this is different. Jenn has revamped the story and is releasing it in 6 parts... complete with Perry's story! So without further ado, I give you Jenn Leblanc.

Hello lovelies! Hi Jamie! Thank you for having me today! I am so excited to announce my blog tour, and today is the first day!

First, a blurb:

A woman out of time.
A man stifled by propriety.
A nemesis determined to take her away.
A brother to the rescue.

How will a powerful Duke deal with a woman who doesn't know her place? How will a woman used to the 21st century survive in time where she is considered property?

THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE Part one brings Francine to the world of the Duke of Roxleigh, clashing worlds in first installment of the completely revised novel, with all new material.

Francine Larrabee woke up on the wrong side of the century. She was fairly certain she went to sleep in her own comfy bed, but she doesn’t quite seem to be there now. Only adding to her problems is that she has no voice, is constantly being glowered at by a large, stunning man who is obsessed with propriety, and she is apparently betrothed to another horrid little man, determined to ruin her, and any other girls that get in his way.
How does she find herself in the past, when she couldn’t even find herself in her present? How does a self sufficient businesswoman survive in a time when women were still considered property for the whole of their lives and what is she going to do with this man who draws her to him so fiercely.

Here is the most exciting part of the blog tour. Every comment made, on every separate blog, constitutes an entry into the grand prize. So not only am I giving away lots of books and fun stuff at every stop but at the end you’ll be entered to win the GRAND PRIZE: A color Nook from Barnes and Noble OR a Kindle Fire from Amazon. (the actual prize will be sent as a gift certificate in the amount of $220 for either outlet)

The complete rules can be found on the home page for the tour.

The important thing to remember is all it takes is a comment on the blog to be entered, you can comment on every blog, each worth an entry, but only one comment per blog post is valid. :)

The books will be released every two weeks STARTING TODAY!!

So tell me, have you read THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE? Will you be reading the TRATR Redux? Or are you waiting for Perry’s story at the end?

Today I am giving away THE COMPLETE SERIAL NOVEL, You will receive all six parts of TRATR as they are released to the public! Comment to be entered in this giveaway AS WELL AS the the grand prize.

Also check out The Not Another Romance Blog for a super secret scene with Perry, and Romancing Rakes for a special blog post and another giveaway, AND  A REVIEW OF THE FIRST BOOK!!

*smooches*

Jenn
Ah! Are you excited yet? You should be! Jenn is super fabulous and I hope you join her for the Wicked Blog Tour. Make sure to comment for your chance to win! I'll draw a name on Friday the 23rd.

Just a note before we start: This is our first joint review and we will be doing this for every part of Jenn LeBlanc's serial novel: THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE because we love it so much. Not because of the pictures (oh, who are we kidding?) but because of the wonderful story. We get to re-live it again with extra scenes AND finally find out what happens to Perry. But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

December Joyathon: Interview + Giveaway with Jenn LeBlanc

Meet Jenn:
I have several constants in life that define me:
Colorado, Canon, CJ, kids and curls.
Born and raised in a household of other people’s children in this beautiful state —very nearly with a camera in hand— I never left. I started my own family, got used to the curls, went to college, built a CJ, and started a business, all with a camera in hand.

I always had another passion; storytelling born from daydreams and nightmares. My fingers were never as quick as my mind, and no amount of practice got them there, so it was difficult and frustrating to have this inside me. When my second daughter was born her inherent traits kept me pinned— my only escape the keyboard. Spending my days in parenting chat rooms I got highly adept with one-handed typing and I can still type just about as fast with one hand as I can with two. It’s a great talent to have when engrossed in a scene and in need of a hit of caffeine. I recently finished my first novel but I quickly realized: I was born a photographer.
From the realization that someone ELSE would be shooting the cover of MY book my control-freak took over. What started as an easy cover shoot ballooned into this completely new kind of media, designed specifically for digital book readers.
I live and thrive off chaos and the constant flow of the creative process. I wear shorts and flip-flops year-round —much to the chagrin of my friends and family— and I am currently working on the illustrations for my second novel.
