The Power of Scent

When it comes to writing romance, I always try to include as many senses as possible when describing scenes between the hero and heroine. And one of my favorite to incorporate and expound upon is scent.

There is nothing better than a fine smelling man, right? Let's break down the layers of scent too, take away the cologne, the detergent from the clothes, the scent of soap and shampoo...and let's get down to the very essence of him. Everyone has a unique smell and when you find the right one that knocks your socks off, there is nothing more intoxicating. His scent can become quite the drug, if you know what I mean. *winks*

And us females love to find a great smelling perfume, lotion, whatever. I know I've walked past many a woman and thought, "What is she wearing?" I was just flipping through a magazine earlier and found a sample in there I couldn't stop from sniffing, it smelled that good.

Scents can also trigger memories. Fresh cut grass, pumpkin pie, roses...scent is such an integral part of our life. I can't imagine not being able to smell!

So when I created my heroine Gabriella Durand, I knew she had to be special. Her nose is her special talent. She can break down a perfume to its barest essentials and then create something out of absolutely nothing. She is exactly what Rhett Worth needs. Not only is she going to create the new perfume for Worth Luxury, she's also going to see right through him. Break him down to his barest essentials...Gabriella has Rhett all figured out.

He's not quite sure how to deal with that, the big dope.
