Twisting a Trope
First of all, thanks for having me back on Romancing Rakes, Kati, especially since we’re so close to the release of my newest—TOUCH OF A SCOUNDREL!
After reading that title, I know what you’re thinking. Here comes another story with a hero who’s a bit dodgy about that whole right and wrong thing, who thinks playing by the rules is for other people. But you’d be wrong. In this book, it’s my heroine who’s the scoundrel.
Emmaline Farnsworth and her foster father have skipped around Europe hocking fake reliquaries. Now they’ve found an unusual Egyptian artifact they hope to parlay into “The Big One,” the score that will enable them to stop defrauding people and settle into some semblance of a normal life. On top of that, Emma’s father is showing the early signs of consumption and the German sanatorium that offers a cure does not come cheap. So she has to make this con work.
She and her father met Theodore Nash on board a ship in the Mediterranean and accompanied him home to England. He’s young, well-moneyed and gullible. He also fancies himself in love with Emmaline.
She has no trouble scamming a mark. After all, a con will not work unless the mark is greedy, but she’s less at ease about breaking someone’s heart. And the path ahead gets even murkier when she finds herself attracted to Theodore’s older brother, Griffin, the Earl of Devonwood.
Another twist to this tale is that my hero has a psychometric gift. When Griffin touches certain objects, a vision of the future is pressed upon him and he Sees what’s ahead for the owner of the object sometime in the next 12 hours. When he picks up Emmaline’s drawing pencil, he Sees himself kissing her senseless. Since he’s never been able to avoid the future he Sees, he’s unusually happy about this Sending. Until he learns his brother is in love with her.
I hope you’ll enjoy TOUCH OF A SCOUNDREL!

It's a matter of honor, duty… and desire…
Griffin Nash, Earl of Devonwood, wants to believe that he's seducing Miss Emmaline Farnsworth out of protectiveness for his young brother. After all, if his brother is convinced that the tantalizing professor's daughter is unworthy of his trust, perhaps Teddy will lose all interest in such an inappropriate choice for his station.
But in truth, something else motivates Devonwood: a scintillating vision he's had of a future tryst with the lovely Emmaline. A vision too realistic to be doubted--and too scaldingly passionate to be denied.
Yet Emmaline is not as easily tempted as Devonwood might have hoped--nor is she actually in pursuit of a wealthy husband. No, the real reason for her visit to the manor is something much more shocking… though being enticed by a dashing earl may prove to be a most welcome by-product of her schemes…
