Titanic Tea Party
by Deeanne Gist
I attended my first tea party in a cast off bridesmaid dress that was a bazillion sizes too big for me. My guests—Teddy the bear, a stuffed Lost Boy from Peter Pan, a white stuffed dog named Pongo and Baby the doll—came dressed for the occasion. I poured tea(aka colored water) from a miniature china teapot into teenincy cups which held about three raindrops each. We ate crumpets (aka Easy Bake Oven delectables) and gossiped about Clarissa—my big sister’s doll who had long platinum hair that spilled over her shoulders in ringlets. (I wasn’t allowed to touch her, so the conversation was quite vicious.)
Now, cough-cough-years later, I get to host another tea party. But this time around, my dress will fit (assuming I don’t eat too many brownies between now and then), the tea will be real, my refreshments will be cooked by a former Iron Chef and my guests will be YOU, along with some of our favorite historical authors. (Have I mentioned Teresa Medeiros, Kat Martin, Elizabeth Hoyt, Alexandra Ivy, Rebecca Forster … and more, more, more?)
In honor of the Titanic’s 100-year anniversary, our tea will take on a Titanic theme: Fabulous dresses. Outrageous hats. Tasty tea. Refreshments made from authentic Titanic recipes. And an opulent boat minus the seasickness.
We’ll play games with the authors, have giveaways and learn whether our pinkie goes up or down when sipping tea. We’ll meet the captain, see the authors in Edwardian costumes, and each of us will take on a specific Titanic passenger persona. At the end of the tea, you’ll find out if you survived or not.
So, come in costume … wear a hat … or come as you are, but don’t delay in signing up for the Titanic Tea, because space is limited and last year, our event sold out! See you there!

Dashing Luke Palmer is more than he appears though. He's a Texas Ranger working undercover to infiltrate a notorious gang of train robbers. Repairing telephones and tangling with this tempestuous woman is the last thing he wants to do. But when his stakeout puts Georgie in peril, he realizes more than his job is on the line.

I have to say that I love reading historical romance. I really like the regency time period.
ReplyDeleteThe Titanic Tea sounds like so much fun. I love historical romance, so I would enjoy dressing up in period costume and having tea with fellow lovers of all things historical. Post pictures after the event, please!
ReplyDeleteHistorical romance, especially Regency/Victorian and Edwardian are my absolute favorite to read.
ReplyDeleteTitanic Tea sounds like a blast! I love to play dress up, although I'd have a hard time finding a costume, I suspect. Historical Romance got me started on romance, and it's long been my favorite genre!
ReplyDeleteI love to read, hear or watch anything on the Titanic. It was just such a horrific tragedy. My preference for reading is usually historical romance.
ReplyDeleteYour Afternoon Tea sounds like such fun but I regret to say that I will be unable to attend. Please share photographs of the fun. I shall be there in spirit! I love the flyer for your Afternoon Tea! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy any historical romance time period. They bring history to life through the everyday lives of the characters that no history book could even dream of! Thank you for taking us on a journey with you!
Cheers!
I am so envious of everyone who can attend RomCon and your yea party. I love reading historical fiction!
ReplyDeleteOh how I would love to attend your tea party. It sounds fabulous. I find the subject of the Titantic both fascinating and extremely tragic. Thank you for the post.
ReplyDeleteI wish you all could come, too. It's gonna be so much fun! If you're worried about a costume, here's someone who shows you how to assemble a Titanic costume for $20 or less! http://www.vintagedancer.com/how-to-make-a-titanic-swim-dress-on-a-budget/
ReplyDeleteI read a lot of Amish books, but i also like romance and mystery. Would love to win a copy of Love on the Line. ejs8741@homail.com
ReplyDeleteHi Deeanne!
ReplyDeleteEvery year I think of how much I'd love to go to Ron Com but when it comes to having the time to use my vacation time from work going or traveling so see my grandchildren in South Carolina the little ones win the contest hands down but maybe some day I'll finally make it!
The favorite book of yours I've read so far is A Bride in the Bargain but I must admit Love on the Line may just beat it out once I read it. My husband's grandmother was a telephone operator on roller skates in Hartford, CT, my mother-in-law is a retired telephone operator and to keep it in the family my younger son is a Manager for AT+T! It must run in the blood.
Does anyone else besides me yearn for their old rotary dial phone back? You know the one they gave you free and when you moved you took it with you? The one that lasted for years and keep on working! The son I mentioned still has the one my husband and I got back in 1972 when we got married and guess what? When there's a storm and power goes off it still works!
That's one of the reasons I love your books. There's something about the good-old-simpler times that can't be reproduced in today's society.
I hope you have a wonderful time at your tea and know the room will be packed full!
A telephone operator on roller skates?? Do tell! (And ... thanks. :) )
DeleteHi Deeanne!
ReplyDeleteYour Titanic Tea sounds and looks like a lot of fun! One of these days I will get to RomCon and be able to experience it myself:)
I am so going to Romcon next year! Sounds like so much fun
ReplyDeleteI would love a Titanic Tea Party. I used to have tea parties with my friend in Kindergarten. We used sugar water and held our pinky out.
ReplyDeleteMel
Thanks for a fun post and giveaway! Grrr... yet another reason that I'm sad that I'm not going to RomCOm! Your Tea party sounds like it would be a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteHi! I loved the Historical Fashion Show last year, so I'm looking forward to the tea party! I am excited to see all the costumes.
ReplyDeleteThe Titanic Tea party sounds like a lot of fun. Good choice for a theme party.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an interesting historic period, just when telephone service is starting. Plus it's got a Texas Ranger!
ReplyDeleteThe Titanic Tea sounds like so much fun - would love to see pictures of the outfits.
The Titanic tea party sounds like so much fun. I remember the tea parties with my baby dolls, stuffed animals, cool aid, and cookiesI had a human guest sometimes when my little sister was being nice or my mom would join me. A theme tea party for adults would be like being small again.
ReplyDeleteThe Titanic party sounds amazing. I hope lots of people dress up. :) I never did tea parties as a child but I bet I'd appreciate tea parties more as an adult.
ReplyDeleteEarlier this year, my daughter's girl scout troop had a formal tea party to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts. It was so much fun learning about the right way to host a tea party, and then to dress up and have tasty little cakes. I even went to my local library and read up on the so called "high tea time." It made me want to start drinking tea more often.
ReplyDeleteRomCom sounds like it will be a blast, especially the Titanic Tea. I do hope that all who are fortunate to attend, have an absolutely wonderful time! I'm hoping that one year (sooner rather than later!) I will be able to attend and join in on all of the fun. Best wishes!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to see your fashion show last year and was looking forward to the Titanic Tea Party this year. Unfortunately, I won't be able to go again this year. I certainly hope you will be hosting an event at RomCon next year. I just might make it then. If I manage to get back to sewing, I might even have a costume to wear.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoyed your books. I like that you have chosen to write about time periods and people that are usually overlooked by most romance writers. I have two of your books on my TBR shelf at the moment and hope to get to them soon.
Enjoy RomCon and your tea parties. I hope to see you next year.
